Ionia Horse Trails Association Board Meeting Minutes

June 26, 2010


The meeting was called to order by club president Rob Potter at 2:15. The meeting was held at the Equestrian Campground, Ionia State Recreation Area. Present were: Wendy Walker, Gale Moore, Lori Coffin, Tara Sowa, Sue Manes, Vicki Potter, Bob & Jean Keilholtz, Norma Kilpatricfk, Cricket Nelson, Liduina Fedewa, Barb Buck.


The Secretary’s Report for April, 2010 was present. A motion to accept the report as written was made by Tara Sowa, seconded by Liduina Fedewa. Passed unanimously.


The Treasurer’s Report was presented. A motion of accept the report as written was made by Barb Buck and seconded by Sue Manes. Passed unanimously.


Memberships: We have a current membership of 81.


Old Business:


Rob is in the process of completing the sign-in paper project for the Day Riding Area.


There is no news on the bridge project. Continues to be on hold due to lack of grants and funds.


Sue has found that the Buyers’ Guide and the Ionia Shopper will print information in their publications for upcoming events for the Association. She will be contacting the Reminder out of Hastings to see if they offer the same kind of service.


New Business:


August is sneaking up on us. This will be the month that we will be voting in our new board members.


If you are experiencing problems making reservations at the Rec. Area through the 1-800-number, please send an e-mail to our Secretary, Sue Manes at sdmanes@yahoo.com. She will be compiling this information for the Association.


Other Information:


Tara is still collecting cans at the campouts. The monies from these will be donated to the club. If you have any cans please see her. She will be keeping a large plastic bag at her trailer for them to be placed.


Cricket will be conducting a picket line demonstration immediately after this meeting.


Kathy and Lucia from Lifeline for Pound Puppies were introduced by Tara. They talked about their program and had a couple buddies with them for us to meet. They welcomed questions and encouraged us to visit their friends they brought with them.


Our next campout will be July 16-18 at the Equestrian Campground.


Our next meeting will be August 21st, at the Equestrian Campground, Ionia Recreation Area at 1:00.

April 24, 2010


The meeting was called to order by club president Rob Potter at 10:11. The meeting was held in the equine campground, Ionia State Recreation Area. Present were: Wendy & Bob Walker, Gale Moore, Mike Foote, Tara Sowa, Sue Manes, Vicki Potter, David Richmond, Gaye Platte, Ceaira Potter, Melva Parker, Thomas Parker, Nancy Simmonds, Amy Estes, Matt Edwards, Lindsay Brill, Liduina Fedewa


The Secretary’s Report for March, 2010 was presented. A motion to accept the report as written was made by Mike Foote, seconded by Gale Moore. Passed unanimously.


The Treasurer’s Report for March, 2010 was presented. A motion to accept the report as written was made by Sue Manes, seconded by Mike Foote. Passed unanimously.


Memberships: We had no membership news available.


Old Business:


Signage for the Cart Trail has been ordered by Ted Kessler. It is currently on back order.


Gale Moore had the newly designed letter and sign-in paper for the Day Riding Area.


The bridge project has been put on hold due to lack of grants and funds.

Tara is collecting cans at all campouts. The monies from these will be donated to the club. If you have any cans please see her. She will be keeping a large plastic bag for then to be placed.


Sue is still looking into being able to place ads in the local papers for free. She will report on these results at our next meeting.


Rob and Vicki will continue to bring the Equine Times to our campouts and meetings. They receive 25 each month for distribution.


New Business:


There is a change in our meeting schedule. We will be having meetings every other month, instead of every month, except in August and September. Those two months will be back to back.

Other Information:


The May 14-16 Memorial Ride Campout will be hosted by Rob & Vicki Potter. There will NOT be a monthly meeting.


Our next meeting will be June 26th at 1:00. This will be the St. Jude Ride weekend at the organizational campground. Food available for  5.00 a plate  drinks available for 1.00 also.Food vvill be served approximately 5 pm in the Organizational Campground .   

 Wendy and Bob Walker will be our hosts.

Ionia Horse Trails Association Board Meeting Minutes

March 6, 2010


The meeting was called to order by club president Rob Potter at 10:21. The meeting was held at Terry’s Café, Woodbury, MI. Present were: Wendy & Bob Walker, Noah Rowland, Vern Pifer,Gale Moore, Mike Foote, Tara Sowa, Nancy Moody, Sue Manes, Norma Kilpatrick, Maggie VanDyken, Mickey Dawson, Chris Osmolinski, Liduina Fedewa, Barb Buck and Lea Burger.


The Secretary’s Report for February, 2010 was presented. A motion to accept the report as written was made by Mike Foote, seconded by Barb Buck. Passed unanimously.


The Treasurer’s Report for February, 2010 was presented. A motion to accept the report as written was made by Barb Buck, seconded by Mickey Dawson. Passed unanimously.


Memberships: We have 65 paid members.


Work Bees: None have been scheduled at this time.


Old Business:


Signage for the Cart Trail was discussed. Sue will go by the Park and talk with Ted about our suggestions. We feel the signs should be as follows:

Three----”Cart Trail” signs. 2 that point to the right, and one that points to the left.

One----”One Way” sign with an arrow pointing to the right.

One----”Cart Trail Entrance“.


Jackets were ordered by Tara. They will be done by the Expo.

Sweatshirts are being worked on. They will also be done in time for the Expo.


The tables for the Saranac Tack Sale have been paid for. The set up time is from 7:00-9:00 am. Tear down time is from 1:00-2:00. If you would like to sell something at the IHTA Table it will cost $8.00. This will also be a bake sale. Please bring bake goods in some type of packaging, ready to sell.


There was success in getting all our horse sites back. We have been told that the rate for the group campground will go from $12.00 to $17.00. The State has posted the cost at $12.00. Rob will check the legality of the cost hike.


Sue Manes made a motion check to be made out to Lori Coffin in the amount of $110. This will be for Petty Cash and candy for the Expo. Seconded by Barb Buck. Passed.

New Business:


The Michigan Horse Council is making up a Member Directory.

We can purchase a ¼ of a page for $20.00. The deadline for getting our information to the Horse Council is March 20th. All membership organizations will receive a copy. A motion was made for us to participate by Mickey Dawson. Seconded by Luduina Fedewa. Motion passed.

Wendy Walker will make up the ad and Tara Sowa will submit the check.

Other Information:


There was discussion on having someplace for riders to sign in at the Day Area. This would help keep track of the number of people who use that area. Gale Moore will make up a format for us to review.


There was discussion regarding Camp Hosts for the our campouts.

April & May will be hosted by Rob & Vicki Potter.

June will be hosted by Wendy & Bob Walker.

July will be hosted by Chris Osmolinski.

Gale Moore will host August.

The Harvest Festival will be the weekend of September 25th.


Breakfast for the April Campout will be at 8:30 on Saturday.

Our monthly meeting will be at 9:30. Come hungry!

There will be a Site Committee meeting on March 21st, , 10:00 at the State Park.

Results of the Survey were shared at this meeting. Rob plans on calling another Executive Board Meeting to discuss the results.
